As the European Commission’s science and knowledge service, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) supports European Union (EU) policies with independent scientific evidence throughout the whole policy cycle. It creates, manages and makes sense of knowledge, and develops innovative tools and make them available to policy makers.
The JRC collaborates with over a thousand organisations worldwide whose scientists have access to many JRC facilities through various collaboration agreements.
It has a direct impact on the lives of citizens by contributing with its research outcomes to a healthy and safe environment, secure energy supplies, sustainable mobility and consumer health and safety. It hosts specialist laboratories and unique research facilities and is home to thousands of scientists.
The JRC has six sites in five EU countries (Brussels [Belgium], Geel [Belgium], Ispra [Italy], Karlsruhe [Germany], Petten [The Netherlands], Seville [Spain])
ASEF is an intergovernmental not-for-profit organisation that:
- advances mutual understanding and collaboration between the people of Asia and Europe through intellectual, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges;
- acts as the civil society outreach of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), and works as a platform for Asia-Europe dialogue to stimulate permanent networks that reinforce Asia-Europe bi-regional relations;
- acts as an interface between civil society and ASEM governments and consequently, contributes to the ASEM process by generating unique recommendations for officials’ consideration
ASEF was established in February 1997 by the partners of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and remains to this day the only established institution of ASEM. Although based in Singapore, ASEF operates in all ASEM countries. ASEF is funded by contributions from ASEM partners. Most of ASEF projects are also supported financially by civil society organisations, public institutions and businesses that ASEF works with. Since its inception, ASEF has initiated projects engaging over 17,000 individuals from Asia and Europe.
ERIA is an international organisation which works to further economic integration in the East Asia Summit (EAS) region and support the ASEAN Community through its research and policy related activities. It was established by 16 Heads of the Governments at the 3rd East Asia Summit (EAS) in Singapore on 21 November 2007. It is located in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has recognized ERIA as an international organization.
ERIA has the mandates from East Asia Summit, ASEAN Summit and related Ministerial Meetings, to provide policy research and recommendations to stimulate economic growth, deepen regional integration and strengthen partnership in East Asia. ERIA works closely with the ASEAN Secretariat and 16 Research Institutes in the EAS countries. ERIA conducts its research under three pillars, namely,
- Deepening Economic Integration
- Narrowing Development Gaps
- Sustainable Development
ERIA’s Research covers a wide range of policy areas, such as trade and investment, globalization, SME promotion, human resource and infrastructure development, as well as energy and environment issues. Since 2011, ERIA has been officially mandated by the EAS leaders to support the activities of the chair country of ASEAN and EAS for the summit meetings and related activities.
The Center for China and Globalization (CCG) is a leading Chinese non-government think tank based in Beijing. It is dedicated to the study of Chinese public policy and globalization. Boasting a strong research team, it enjoys an impressive record of publications and events with broad public policy impact. CCG’s research agenda centres on China’s growing role in the world, drawing from issues of global migration, foreign relations, international trade and investment, homegrown MNCs and other topics pertaining to regional and global governance.
Two well-known scholars, Dr. Wang Huiyao and Dr. Miao Lu, founded the CCG in 2008. Today nearly 100 in-house researchers and staff serve this thinking hub with subsidiaries and divisions spanning across China, including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Qingdao and Hong Kong.
